Description
Dungeons are usually full of treasure and great artifacts just laying there, waiting for brave adventurers to stumble onto them. Naturally, the same dungeons are also riddled with deadly traps and all sorts of evil creatures eager to tear adventurers apart, so the job isn’t a simple one. On the other hand, it certainly beats working for a living, at least judging by how poor NPCs usually are in video games.
Kill the Leech King and get his treasure
Rogue Quest - Episode 1 is a humorous point & click adventure game in which you play the role of a brave young man going head-to-head with the almighty Leech King. His purpose is to get the treasure, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to destroy the undead king once and for all while he’s at it. As for the gameplay, it’s all about clicking on things and combining items to solve various puzzles.
It all starts when Konrad - the main character - steps into a dungeon and hears the gate lock behind him. He’s still pretty brave, on the other hand, because he decides to find another way out and still get the treasure. As it turns out, he quickly stumbles onto a powerful artifact that has the ability to destroy the Leech King, but he requires more ingredients to prepare the proper ritual.
Retro graphics and simple interface
The items you pick up are stored in your inventory, and you can easily reach them when you think they can be useful. Granted, the game itself is not very complex, which means that the puzzles are more or less obvious as well. Since there is only one route to the end and no wiggle room whatsoever when it comes to the puzzle solutions, you can figure it all out in under 20 minutes.
As for the graphics, you need to be prepared to deal with heavy pixelation, although that shouldn’t be a problem if you enjoy retro games. This one is a tad rougher than most games out there, especially when it comes to level design, but it shouldn’t be a problem. On the other hand, you may have difficulties seeing the objects you can interact with, at least if you do not want to highlight them using the dedicated function.
A short adventure that puts a smile on your face
All things considered, Rogue Quest - Episode 1 is a bit too short to become a classic, and it’s also pretty rough in regards to puzzle quality. However, it can be perfect if you want to escape reality for a few minutes and have some fun at the same time.
