Radical Rockits

Jetpacks seem like a very practical idea in theory, except maybe for the fact that they cannot hold much fuel, which severely limits their range. However, with the right propulsion system and a few protection upgrades, they can become a very popular transportation method, at least some time in the future. One can only imagine the possibilities they could open.

Use a jetpack to explore an open map

Radical Rockits is a sandbox game in which you have to fly around using a jetpack, with no actual goal or purpose. Hence, the whole experience is as fun as you make it, although patience and skill are also involved in the process. In short, it can be quite a challenge to control your character, especially if you also want to perform a few stunts around the environment.
Your main concern is keeping the character flying straight, because the jetpack is kind of a pain to control. It comes with two thrusters, and each one of them has to be controlled separately. While this comes in handy if you need to steer or quickly change directions, it also makes it difficult to fly straight when you want to. Hence, you’ll be plunging into the ground more often than you’d like.

Perform death-defying stunts

Although there are no actual missions or guidelines, the map is full of interesting obstacles and hoops you can mess around with, as long as you are skilled enough. It takes some practice to steer the jetpack, as mentioned before, but it can be quite satisfying to succeed once you manage to get the gist of it. In fact, it’s a lot tougher to rotate the character properly than it is to control the thrusters.
To make things more interesting, you are allowed to play the game with three other players, albeit only in co-op. It is also possible for multiple players to control the same character, which makes it a lot easier to stay in the air. Additionally, while the graphics are not exactly state-of-the-art, the colorful environments look nice enough to improve your mood.

Needs more purpose and a bit of polish

In the end, Radical Rockits is certainly not a bad game, but it’s clearly just a basic jam game with nothing of real substance to it. On the other hand, this could really turn into something more engaging, at least if enough content is added and the control is refined.
