Description
Pirates are famous for their lust for treasure, although it seems like they always chose to bury it instead of spending the riches themselves. Granted, most of the stories are actually myths and legends, because very few pirates actually got to take home entire chests full of gold. Even so, pirate adventures are fun to watch in movies, especially if they involve monsters.
Search for treasure and fight against the time limit
Pirate Road is a match-three game in which you have to clear the board as quickly as possible before the timer runs out. There are no new gameplay mechanics at work, so every fan of the genre should be able to start playing right away. In fact, the whole thing is very simple and repetitive, which is not what you want from a game you are supposed to enjoy for hours.
To begin with, the boards are very small and unimpressive, and the tiles are nothing out of the ordinary either. You do not have to move them around in order to obtain a match, since the only thing you need to do is click & drag over as many connected tiles as possible. There’s no limit to how many you can connect, but they obviously have to be at least three.
Use power-ups to make your life easier
Although the gameplay gets repetitive after a while, you can at least make use of some power-ups to get out of sticky situations. The time limits are pretty tight, so you might have to make up for the lack of possible matches by simply blowing everything up with a bomb. In addition, you can also gain a bit more time or perform a handful of other actions.
Lastly, the graphics are nothing to write home about either, although they are colorful enough to put an eye out. As mentioned before, the lack of different backgrounds and tile sets makes the experience get repetitive in a rush, especially since the gameplay is so dull as well. The music fails to impress too, although at least that can be easily turned off when it gets on your nerves.
A regular match-three game with not much to offer
All in all, Pirate Road is not the revolutionary match-three game you are looking for, but then again it can still keep you busy for a while if all you need is a reason to waste some time. Furthermore, the time limit can be quite challenging for newcomers.
