Description
Open world games are the norm nowadays, except in the case of heavily-scripted shooters that feature action-packed scenes in a neat, but strict succession. Hence, players are much more likely to enjoy the adventure when they are free to explore the map as they see fit. It’s also a lot more rewarding to come up with your own strategy, rather than follow the one imposed by the game.
An open island full of enemies and monsters
Mission Escape From Island 3 is a first-person shooter in which you play the role of a man stuck on an island, with nothing to keep him going but a few weapons and a couple of medkits. That should be enough to tackle all sorts of dangers, on the other hand, especially since one of the weapons you have at your disposal is a pretty powerful rifle with a scope.
To begin with, you are given no missions to worry about, which is a bit disorienting. Instead, the goal is to start exploring and hope that you stumble onto a mission along the way, which is fairly easy to do as it turns out. However, the map itself is full of zombies and various soldiers, so you really need to pay attention to where you are going in order to avoid being attacked.
Annoying mechanics and terrible AI
Unfortunately, the gameplay is a bit too rough to be enjoyable for more than a few minutes, mainly because the shooting mechanics are quite terrible. Every enemy requires a handful of shots before they are put down, regardless of whether you shoot them in their toes or their heads. This breaks the immersion and makes you feel like you are shooting at walking bricks.
Lastly, the graphics fail to impress as well, given the fact that the island is almost featureless, and the few buildings you come across are as simple as they can get. On the other hand, even the enemies are all the same in most cases, not to mention the atrocious animations and the amateur special effects. Hence, don’t hope for an immersive experience, because that’s out of the question in this case.
An open world with nothing to see
In the end, it’s quite the bummer to see that Mission Escape From Island 3 fails to deliver a comprehensive experience, since there are many other, much better games out there you could try instead. Hence, few things about it make it worth the effort, but the open world might be one of them, at least if you can get over the fact that most of the island is empty and featureless.
