Description
Micro Car Racing is a nice little racing simulator that lets you experience the racetrack in an arcade fashion. It features simple graphics, basic gameplay but well implemented physics.
Classic racing game setup
Micro Car Racing is a game that won’t really impress with graphics and in-game variety. It features a rather basic design where you have the track, the cars and some environment details. There are a few cars to choose from, each with its own design and performance characteristics.
You get to opt between a nice sporty hatchback, a pickup truck and even the equivalent of a supercar. Of course, the best cars need to bought before you can drive them and to do so, you need to earn enough points. The tracks that are available are interesting in design as they provide large ramps for you to jump off, tight turns and long straight sections to help you catch up to your opposition
Physics are here and they are accurate
A predominant issue with racing games in general are physics and how the affect driving. In a lot of cases car handling is far from the truth and so is car behavior when you take a curve or crash into something.
In Micro Car Racing, physics are right at home and you get to know this from the first curve. Depending on the car you select, whether it’s heavy or light, it really makes a difference to handling. You actually do need to take into consideration the speed at which you make a turn or you will crash into a wall, slowing your speed and damaging your car.
The latter feature, car damage isn’t something visible but bump your car often enough and you will get a temporary speed penalty for not taking care of it. The damage issue can be solved by collecting repair powerups which are scattered around the track but even those can be hard to pick up due to how the car handles.
A game designed to be accurate and enjoyable
All in all, Micro Car Racing might not get your attention in the looks department but it does deserve a chance for the way cars handle and how challenging it can be to finish a race in first place.
