Description
Halo Zero is a 2D platformer inspired from the gaming landmark that is Halo. The game follows a short story in which you, Master Chief John-117 have to eliminate the invading aliens.
Simple gameplay and graphics
In Halo Zero, Cortana won’t be assisting you with your missions as the game only offers a few short monologues from NPC soldiers that present you with the missions. There are no voiceovers to enjoy, only simple and concise text.
The first thing you need to do when entering the game is to change the controls as the default ones make the it kind of unplayable. Once you do that, you can enjoy the game in all its 2D glory.
From a visual point of view, Halo Zero isn’t really all that bad if you’re looking for an arcade game with a classic feel but the poor and repetitive animations make it a bit tedious to play.
Shoot the enemy with their own weapons
Just like in the first-person shooter, in Halo Zero you can pick up the weapons from the aliens you kill and use them yourself. It’s a nice touch to the game and there are a few weapons to use but unfortunately, only a few alien types to shoot at.
Moreover, the latter show up in the same groups and pose no real challenge to you. Some are easier to kill while others need a few good shots to go down, but it seems that if you strike them with your weapon in a melee attack, they all die immediately.
A not so good take on the Halo series
To sum things up, Halo Zero is not really the platformer you want to play if you're looking to see what it would look like in a 2D perspective. It’s levels are almost the same and although it’s a short game, you can get bored of it really fast.
