Description
In order to have fun with a match three game, the mechanics must be able to keep you entertained over long periods of time, given the fact that you are pretty much stuck doing the same thing over and over again. Hence, power-ups and different objectives are a must in order to keep you from getting too bored, not to mention the fact that it must also be a challenging experience.
Clear colorful jewels from the board and do it quickly
Fruits Hurricane is a match three game that features basic gameplay mechanics and almost no variety when it comes to level design, which is a huge bummer. On the other hand, it does have one thing that might set it apart from many other games in the genre: a rotating board. Hence, instead of slowly analyzing the screen for possible matches, you have to do it quickly before the jewels leave your sight.
In essence, the whole thing is a big cylinder that rotates for as long as you have the patience to play the game, because there are no other levels and no purpose to your actions other than to attain the high score. You can click on groups of gems to trigger a match, and a new batch instantly appears in their place, making the whole thing kind of redundant.
Decent graphics and abysmal replayability
As mentioned before, the game’s biggest flaw is the fact that it doesn’t feature multiple levels, nor are you allowed to use special abilities or pick up power-ups. Hence, the whole thing becomes repetitive only a few minutes into the game, which is not what you want in a match-3 title. Even so, the underlying concept might be expanded with enough dedication.
As for the graphics, they are certainly not bad, but don’t expect anything too great either. The rotating board is quite colorful and flashy, as are the gems you have to click on. Even if there are only a handful of symbols of them, it’s still the most varied aspect of the game, which is saying a lot. Naturally, the soundtrack is just as repetitive as everything else.
Not enough content to be worth your time
In the end, Fruits Hurricane gets boring way too quickly, and the whole fiasco could have been avoided with multiple levels, different backgrounds, or at least multiple types of gems. However, this is just too repetitive to keep you busy for longer than a few minutes.
