Description
Arcade racing games may not be as popular today as they once were, but there are still plenty of indie productions released on a regular basis to keep the genre alive. Such games are great if you want to drive and not care at all about the laws of physics or anything else, but they can also feature intricate gameplay mechanics if the designers put some thought into the process.
Avoid your pursuers and do your best to stay ahead of them
FFX Runner HD is a revived classic that allows you to have simple fun whenever you want something light to take your mind off things. It features straightforward mechanics and basic graphics, which means that anyone can pick it up and start playing right away, regardless of any previous experience with racing games. On the other hand, it has the tendency to get old really fast.
In essence, the goal is to race around the city and avoid the two cars that are constantly pursuing you, while also collecting money, fuel and repair kits to fix your vehicle. It’s not a complex formula, but it has the potential to keep you engaged for quite some time, especially since you are free to spend as much time as you want on the street with the pedal to the metal.
Simple graphics and mostly accurate controls
As mentioned before, you shouldn’t expect any kind of realism from the gameplay mechanics, because that’s not the goal of the game. Instead, you are free to take 90-degree turns at any speed, as well as navigate off-road sections without as much as a hint of traction loss. On the other hand, you might need an adjustment period until you manage to get the hang of the controls.
The visual quality is nothing to write home about either, despite the HD label in the name. In fact, the game looks like something that might as have been released two decades ago. On the other hand, it really doesn’t make too much of a different, especially if you are in it just for the gameplay. The music is pretty electric as well, just in case you happen to leave the speakers on.
A great way to unwind for a few minutes
When it’s all said and done, FFX Runner HD has the potential to keep you busy for a while, at least if you enjoy simple games with not much to offer in the graphics department. However, it can get old pretty quickly, depending on how patient you are.
