Back when 8-bit graphic engines were cutting edge technology, racing games were a tad less imposing as well. However, the low number of colors and the top-down perspective did not necessarily take all the joy out of racing, since you could still have a lot of fun and adrenaline with one of these. Hence, there are plenty of old classics that might cause a smile on a lot of faces out there.

A remake to honor the original

F-1 Spirit is actually a remake designed in honor of the original game developed by Konami back in ‘87. However, the game tries to keep alive as many aspects of the original as possible, so it looks almost the same and it even feels the same in many regards as well. Thus, in case you had fun with Konami’s release, this may bring back some lovely memories.
Even if you haven’t played the old version, you can still have a lot of fun with this one. The developers tried to improve the game as well, not only copy what Konami did. Thus, this release features better graphics and much smoother controls, although the gameplay is largely the same. In addition, there are plenty of different game modes to choose from too.

Drive a variety of different vehicles

Depending on whether you feel like competing or not, you can choose to enter a tournament or just have a bit of practice, with no stakes and the minimum amount of stress involved. In case you do decide to enroll in a tournament, there are multiple types to choose from, including rallies, Formula 3, and a few other fun choices that can prove to be quite the challenge.
Speaking of which, the gameplay is by no means simple, which means that you really need to pay a lot of attention to the track and the vehicle if you are to finish the race. Everything moves incredibly quick, so your reflexes need to react in very much the same way to able to win the tournaments. Although it is quite simple to take turns without breaking too much, leaving the track for even a little usually sends your vehicle into a spin, which sets you back a great deal.

A sturdy remake with plenty of content

All things considered, F-1 Spirit does manage to bring back some of the same charm from the original, even if it can’t possibly feel the same on a widescreen monitor. However, if nostalgia strikes and you need an idea, this can very well be on your list, since it won’t disappoint.
