Description
End of File, a game that lets you explore the architecture of a broken down piece of software by using an excellently conceived geometrical space. It’s a silent narrative that takes you through a beautiful soundscape and a wondrous world.
A perspective puzzle that makes you feel like you’re exploring the remains of an ancient civilization
As a perspective puzzle game, in End of File you will have to move around the geometrical space and align different objects and paths in a way that changes the world around you in certain ways. This is done to create bridges, generate new spaces or add entire structures so you can proceed to finding the source of the problem.
Environments are separated by corridors and each one you enter is different from the previous one, they have unique solutions and they rely on lateral thinking. Every bit of the game, every floating area has a certain degree of grander to its design.
At times, you feel like you’re making your way through a three dimensional space that’s been built by a higher entity. A series of chambers and temples that test your worthiness. For those who have a thing for architecture, this game will be a treat, especially if minimalism is what they appreciate.
Challenging but not impossible, a game that’s more about the journey than the tasks before you
The puzzles in End of File are tricky but in most part, they have rather obvious solutions, but this depends on your experience with this kind of game. Note that since you’re dealing with a perspective puzzle, it’s important to check and double-check to see if lines and shapes fit exactly as they should.
Also, keep an eye out for subtle hints and please do enjoy the soundscape. End of File is one of those games in which the soundtrack perfectly matches the theme and it makes the journey all that much more immersive. At times, you feel like a traveler through an indecipherable world.
A very short game that leaves you wanting for more
The only major downside to End of File is its length. Even if you’re the kind who takes time to explore every single corner and corridor, End of File still feels way too short. Too bad, it’s a great game.
