Description
Dehinged Mind is a horror game that aims to scare you without actually scaring you. It creates fear by leaving you to explore a world in which everything is eerie, strange things happen and voices can be heard everywhere.
Gameplay, as simple as it can be
From start to finish, Dehinged Mind won’t impress you with its graphics or gameplay. Its built using some pretty bad textures and word design leaves you with the impression that you're in a midget’s horror story. In fact, you might be because there are no clues as to where you are or who you are.
Controls are bound to annoy you at some point because there are no strafe left or strafe right keys, you have to walk to the middle of a corridor to be able to turn. If you try to take a left or a right too soon, you will find yourself stuck on a corner, backing up and trying again being your only options.
It’s really strange to not be able to strafe but then again, it actually helps the horror factor. Since you have to completely expose yourself from behind a door or a corridor corner to make a turn, you will always find yourself facing what ever awaits you.
A decent horror game
From a story point of view, things don’t really make sense initially, neither do they after you find some clues. Although, walking around through some creepy places, hearing all kinds of sounds and a gloomy soundtrack, kind of triggers that part of your imagination which goes dark.
After a few minutes into the game, and reading a few bits of information, the game leaves you alone to create your own horror story in your mind. That is a rare feature that actually makes horror games very good. Unfortunately, in Dehinged Mind’s case, delivery isn’t all that good.
Things don’t make sense and they do at the same time
In Dehinged Mind you get to roam around a lot. There is no objective, other than to walk around until you stumble into a new area and there are no signs that things are leading to a specific event. You just keep walking along, opening doors, falling through holes and finding keys until something else happens.
