Description
Hack and slash games are pretty popular among gamers, at least if they are designed responsibly and they feature enough content to keep the players busy for a few dozen hours. The gameplay is very important as well, because if you are going to do the same thing over and over again, you might as well have fun doing it over extended periods of time.
Perform combos and survive in the jungle
Carnage is a fast-paced hack & slash in which you have to clear a map full of monsters, gain levels and perform quick combos to kill as many enemies as you can. Granted, the game is not as complex as Diablo or Sacred, but then again it also features a lot less content, not to mention the fact that there are no character classes to choose from and no spells.
Instead, you have a small list of combos that can be performed to deal maximum damage to enemies without having to strike for seconds on end. Hence, you can jump, dash and perform a variety of special moves, all of which have their place during combat. Naturally, it can be difficult to learn all of them at first, but it becomes a lot easier along the way.
Retro graphics and responsive controls
Since it’s important that you perform the combos as efficiently as possible, the controls must be spot on and react to your input instantly. Thankfully there are no issues in this regard, because there are no situations when the game fails to register your input. Granted, it would be nice to see more combos and more character classes to choose from, but that’s still a possibility in the future.
As for the graphics, you shouldn’t expect anything too impressive, especially since the visual style is pretty basic. However, it looks good for a retro game, at least when it comes to the artwork and the level design. It’s true that it gets a bit repetitive after a while, mainly because there’s nothing but trees and a little bit of dirt, but you barely have time to notice such things anyway.
The perfect way to practice your reflexes
When it’s all said and done, Carnage is quite the fun little video game, even if it’s very short. However, the difficulty level makes up for the lack of content, at least if you are a beginner to the genre.
