Description
Each culture around the world has certain traditions and customs when it comes to how the young become adults. Whether it’s with a party or with a test of some kind, everyone celebrates their right to be an adult in a different way. However, some rituals are actually quite terrifying, not to mention dangerous, especially in the case of a few tribes from isolated places.
Venerate ten stones and explore a sacred forest
The Mystic Journey of Atriom is a first-person exploration game in which you play the role of a young man by the name of Atriom, who is about to become an adult. The ritual is not very complicated, but you still have to find your way alone throughout an entire forest. As for the gameplay mechanics, you can pretty much figure everything out after a few minutes of game time.
Your goal is to find ten stones and pray to them, which is what everyone must do in order to become a man and reach maturity. However, these sacred stones are spread all over the forest, which makes it a tad more difficult to find them. Thankfully, the map is quite small, although it is pretty difficult to orientate yourself when there are no discernible landmarks.
Use the torch to light your way
One interesting thing about the game is the fact that it features a day/night cycle, which means that you’ll have to find your way in the darkness as well. Thankfully, you have a torch that comes in handy, although it’s still not strong enough to help you navigate. On the other hand, the stones are visible from far away, thanks to the fact that they glow.
As for the graphics, you shouldn’t expect anything too flashy, but the forest is pretty moody if you get past the repetitive environment. There’s not much to see other than trees and the occasional flower, plus a waterfall or two that break the monotony. A lot more could have been done with the night mode as well, because pitch black darkness is not necessarily pretty.
A relaxing experience for adventure fans
All things considered, The Mystic Journey of Atriom was designed in a bit of a rush for a game jam, so it’s only natural that it has some shortcomings. On the other hand, it’s relaxing enough to help you clear your mind on a boring afternoon.
