Description
Achieving a high score is a great feeling in video games, especially if it takes you a long time to do so. On the other hand, the gameplay has to be enjoyable enough to make you keep playing for hours on end. Certain genres are much better suited for this, as is the case with platformers or match-three titles, given the fact that you can keep playing them again and again.
Collect berries and score points
The Collector Of Berries is a match-three game in which you have to clear all the cells by making matches on top of them. Every time you clear the cells you are rewarded with points, which are added to your final score. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of variety when it comes to level design, so the experience can get boring rather quickly.
There’s only one level to play through, which is actually just a square board with nothing special about it. Naturally, you get bored of it rather quickly, but the challenge can distract you for a while. Unfortunately, the difficulty level doesn’t increase either, so you are stuck doing the same thing over and over again with no real sense of achievement.
Keep track of your high scores
At the end of each level you amass a certain number of points, which are then carried over to the next level. Since nothing really changes in regards to level design or difficulty, it’s tough to keep playing after a while, because you feel like your progress is merely an illusion. It depends on why are you playing the game, on the other hand, because it can still be a useful distraction if you need on.
As you might expect, the graphics are as basic as possible too, with nothing too fancy in regards to texture quality or special effects. The tiles never change, regardless of how many levels you pass, and the backgrounds stay the same throughout the experience. Even the music is the same, so you might feel compelled to turn it off after a few minutes.
A poor attempt at rejuvenating an already over-exploited genre
In the end, there already are too many match-three games out there, and The Collector Of Berries does nothing to make the experience feel unique in any way. In fact, it feels as basic as if the developers had no sources of inspiration to work with.
