Description
Lemurs are pretty interesting animals, especially since they look quite unusual as well. However, it’s cartoons and animated movies that made them popular, mainly because they are depicted as party animals with a lot of energy. Hence, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that video games follow into the same footsteps as well.
Help a lemur escape an angry hunter
Lemurzin is an arcade runner game that’s a combination between a platformer and Angry Birds, although it’s a bit easier than the latter. On the other hand, the mechanics are somewhat annoying, given the fact that there’s a bit of an input lag. Moreover, the main character also moves rather slowly, making it difficult to avoid obstacles without carefully planning a few seconds ahead every time.
Besides making sure that you don’t get shot by the hunter along the way, the levels also require you to collect a certain amount of food until you reach the end. This food can also be rather difficult to get, especially after bombs start to make an appearance and block your access to many items. Even so, there’s plenty of food to collect, because it takes a while to reach the finish line, and there’s always an item or two in sight.
Watch out for bombs that block your way
As mentioned before, there are bombs that cause instant death if you touch them, so it’s important to avoid them at any cost. However, you can also use the hunter’s shots to detonate them if you are quick enough, although the sluggish controls make it difficult to use this strategy very often. It’s also rather frustrating to keep dying because you cannot dodge the obstacles quickly enough.
Lastly, the colorful graphics are not bad at all, but they are also repetitive. There’s little variety in the backgrounds, and the animations are kept to a minimum as well. Obviously, this is not necessarily a problem, but when the gameplay gets on your nerves these shortcomings become a lot more obvious, which makes it difficult to keep playing for more than a few minutes at a time.
A short experience for lazy afternoons
In spite of the colorful graphics, Lemurzin can be really stressful because of the controls and the repetitive level design. Hence, it fails to keep you entertained for more than a few minutes, but then again that might be all that you need on a quiet afternoon.
