Description
Fly and dash around to avoid solid blocks that randomly come in your direction, all while listening to some good music. helixDX is a sidescroller with bullet hell gameplay that has you traveling three different words which act and react according to the music that’s being played.
A short game that’s built to relax you a bit
Right off the bat, helixDX is a very short game, for those who measure time in music, it’s three tracks long. The idea in helixDX is to pilot a little ship as best as you can without hitting any of the incoming objects.
And if you do hit them, your ship loses a bit of health, or a lot, depending on the impact. This triggers a really nice and unexpected bleeding mechanic, that makes the ship tough to pilot. It won’t regain health and it will eventually crash. When it does, after it hits the water it immediately respawns and the game lets you continue your journey.
There is an infinite number of lives for the little ship, after all, it’s about the music, not the score.
It’s kind of a one time experience, but it’s a nice one
There isn’t a lot to do in helixDX. After the three tracks end, it’s game over. You can however select continuous play and fly around until you learn the songs by heart but you will eventually get bored with them. helixDX is meant to be a short but good experience. Having the possibility to add a track you really like and play to that would have been a great feature but this works too.
One that will put a positive spin on your day
On a closing note, helixDX is something worth your time, seeing as how it takes up so little of it and it can genuinely make a difference to your day. The tracks are really good if you’re into beats and electronic music and add in the well polished gameplay and you get a few minutes of enjoyment.
