The Beat, the Step and the Cowboys is something I never really thought to exist. It’s such a neat combination of...things, that initially don’t make any sense. However, as you start playing and understand how everything works, it quickly becomes clear what the game is meant to be, and it turns into a neat little treat.

It blends things that delight and confuse you at the same time

The Beat, the Step and the Cowboys blends turn based tactics with rhythm based gameplay, a pinch of humor and something else on which I can’t really put my finger. It’s totally unusual and maybe that’s why it’s interesting and fun to play.
You get singleplayer and multiplayer modes to try out, the latter being the best of the two. In both you control a cowboy and have him move and shoot at the rhythm of a simple beat. When the showdown starts, you can issue a maximum of four commands per turn and you need to plan them well if you want to win.

A turn based tactics game that’s great for mind readers

Your success in The Beat, the Step and the Cowboys relies on your ability to predict what the opponent is about to do, while the other has to worry about not being too predictable. Both participants of the duel are equipped with a gun and an infinite number of bombs that they can use to eliminate the opposition.
While playing you can choose to just move the cowboy around or have him walk two paces in one direction and shoot twice. It’s up to you and your Wild West intuition.

A game that’s way too entertaining to miss

On a closing note, The Beat, the Step and the Cowboys is an outside the box creation that manages risked a bit with gameplay but came out as the victor. It’s totally worth a download and a few rounds, who knows, you might add a new addiction to your list.
