The first is the simple martingale, the second is modified by placing constant half the starting bets always on the opposite side of the doubling side. If there is a long sequence of repetition and you can finish the sequence (you have enough money), then you win the half of the starting bet on each run, while simple martingale always win only the starting bet regardless of repetition.
