Description
Rimshot is a basic sequencer that you can use to create beats for a multitude of music genres. It features an intuitive user interface and provides exactly the sounds and functions you need to get started.
Straightforward and easy to use by anyone
First thing’s first, even though Rimshot is really easy to use, it doesn’t come with a help file or any kind of tutorial. It does, however, provide a few beats for some very well known songs. Loading one of those in and hitting play enables novice users to fully understand how things work.
Inserting sounds, adding them to the sequencer, changing the tempo and bar view, all of that is done in a straightforward manner. After you create a few beats you’ll know it by heart, and you can start working on more and more complex tunes.
You start to see its limitations soon enough
Unlike in elaborate music production software, Rimshot offers just the basics, and that’s for beat construction. You don’t get any pads, synths, or filters to reshape or enhance the original sounds. If simple beat production is what you’re aiming for, Rimshot has more than enough stuff to work with.
On the other hand, it is fairly limited and the more you get to know it, the more you start to see its shortcomings. After a while, you’ll need to add more, or at least be able to export your creations in MP3 format or at least WAV.
It’s nice, if that’s what you want from your sequencer
To wrap it up, Rimshot is a decent little audio tool to have and mess around with. It provides enough material and is sufficiently well built so that it’s actually practical. On the downside, you might get bored with it fast.
