Description
Some horror games manage to create unique atmospheres that stick with players for years to come, which is how the legends of the genre managed to make a name for themselves. Hence, everyone can remember bits and pieces of Silent Hill 2 or Undying, because they had unique settings and soundscapes that are impossible to mistake for anything else.
A recreation of the famous corridor scene
Repeat is a first-person horror game that aims to remind you about another classic, albeit a more modern one. Hence, it’s a reimagining of the famous P.T. scene that never got released, or more exactly the scene that has you going in circles around a corridor and seeing the environment change. Granted, this one is a tad more rudimentary, but at least there are new events to watch out for.
To begin with, you start in the bedroom and you must make your way out of the house, except that the door at the end of the corridor brings you back to the bedroom somehow. As you do the same thing over and over again, things slowly start to change and you find strange objects, or even blocked doors. On top of that, other doors might open, although you might not want to go through them.
Simple graphics and pressing atmosphere
There are also a couple of jokes and jump scares, such as the fact that the game acts like it freezes at some point and even displays an error message. It’s not very believable, nor is it particularly funny, but at least it tries to provide you with something new. As for the jump scares they are pretty timid at first, but the later ones can be much scarier if you are weak of heart.
The graphics are not exactly bad, but the lack of polish is obvious, because the engine itself has the capability to render much more detailed environments. However, you can enjoy the atmosphere even so, in spite of the low-resolution textures and the lack of a high polygon count. The sound effects are rudimentary as well, but they can get the job done if you are easily scared.
An intense experience for horror fans
Although it’s not at all original and it needs a lot more work in regards to gameplay, atmosphere and graphics, Repeat is still quite able to scare you a little bit, or even terrify you. On the other hand, it certainly has no effect on seasoned hardcore gamers.
