Description
The guys over at Cyanide and Happiness might want to take notes because this right here is gold. The Adventures of Stumpy is a great little game in which you play as a guy who, after a really bad truck accident, is left with no arms and gatling guns for legs. He’s still bleeding out and needs to find fresh bags of blood to stay alive, and this is where it gets complicated.
A main character like never before
Seeing as how your character is half dead, you would expect him to crawl or slowly move since he’s got steel peglegs but no, that’s not the case. Your guy can fly around by shooting the weapons at the ground to gain lift and then shooting some more to go in the direction he needs.
In real life, something like that would hurt like hell and that kind of propulsion is more than questionable but then again, when you know you're about to die and adrenaline is being pumped into your system, you don't really feel any pain. Or we could have said that this is a video game and anything goes.
Simple looks but challenging gameplay
The Adventures of Stumpy rocks some pretty good looking graphics to which you wouldn’t really refer to as being high quality but they seem to be perfect for the nature of the game. And also, a lot more attention seems to have been given to gameplay.
For instance, your gatling feet have a limited amount of ammo and you need to use it wisely. Continuous firing is required to get some air but after you get a bit of momentum, short-bursts are more than enough to keep you going in the direction you want. Be careful though, physics are present and accurate and it’s really easy to propel yourself into some very sharp spikes.
A game that’s ridiculously fun
To recap, you’re a handless man that uses feet gatling guns to fly around dangerous caves looking for blood so he won’t die. How can you make that better? You add zombies and give him shotguns for arms. Yep, that’s totally possible and instantly doubles the fun factor. Moreover, as you play, new weapons are unlocked and can be used to replace your limbs.
Make no mistake, The Adventures of Stumpy will get you addicted if you’re into short but challenging games that are also a bit over-the-top and very well put together.
